Science and Engineering Fair for Grades 3 to 12

We are pleased to invite students in Grades 3 to 12 to participate in an Annual STEM Challenge. In this event, students will showcase their Science and Engineering projects to solve real-world problems​​

STEM Challenge Outline

Create a science or engineering project based on your personal passion to solve a real-world problem

Submit a 2 minute video and abstract (250 words) on your project at this link - https://forms.gle/DGn8Jc9b3NEuRViP7 (Submission deadline extended to May 20th, 11.59 pm PT)**

Bring a Display Board at the event for in-person interviews and Judging (May 25, 2025)​
​ **Students must complete registration before submitting the video for scoring

Event Schedule: May 25, 2025

Setup (Display Board): 1 pm to 2 pm
-
Judging and Interviews: 2 pm to 4 pm
-
Open to public/ community showcase: 4 pm to 5 pm

Award Ceremony: 5 pm

Award Categories:
Awards will be given separately for Individual and Team projects in each grade level:

Elementary School (Grades 3–5)
-
Middle School (Grades 6–8)
-
High School (Grades 9–12)
Special Awards - Additional recognition will be awarded to projects that align with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations.

Important:

Students can participate in this challenge in a Team of 1 to 4 students. All participants in the team must first complete an individual registration.​

1. Which grades are eligible to participate?​
Students attending Grade 3 to 8 in academic year 2024-2025 are eligible to participate in the STEM Challenge
​
​
2. What is the objective of the STEM Challenge?​
Our goal is to encourage student interest in Science and Engineering and leverage STEM to solve real-world problems. This also provides them an early exposure for participation in regional and national science fairs in middle/ high school.

3. Where this competition will be held?​
The contest will be held on May 25, 2025 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The room details will be published close to the event date.

4. What is the competition format?
-
Students can participate in this tournament as a team of 1 to 4 students.
-
Students need to submit a 2 minute video on their project by May 20th for judging and scoring
-
Students will also receive scores on their Trifold board presentation and interviews on the event day.

5. How is scoring done?​

Video Submission: 50 points

Display Board and Interviews: 50 points

SDG Abstract and Interviews - 50 points

6. Can I participate individually or do I need a team to participate?
​ You can participate in this challenge individually. However, certain awards are eligible only for Team participants.

7. What is the deadline to register?
The registration will close on May 20, 2025 or earlier when the seats are full. Space is limited so please try to register early to secure your spot.

12. How are Awards categorized?
Thee are separate awards for Elementary, Middle School, and High school projects
Note - If any elementary team has at least one middle school student in their team , they will be considered in the Middle school category and not in the Elementary category.

13. When and how will Judge and Volunteer training take place?
Judge and Volunteer training sessions will be held via Zoom on May 17, and May 18th. Attend any ONE session at your convenience.​
